Things to do in Lake George

A few weeks ago in June, a friend corralled a group of us to do a weekend trip up to Lake George. We stayed in a cabin with a lake view that offered outdoor activities like free boat rentals, volleyball/badminton, fire-pits, and a pool. It was only a mere 10 minute drive to the village.

While it was my first time ever going to the Lake, I immediately loved it because of its relaxed mentality and the views of the lake and the mountains. After visiting, I found out that Lake George was actually nominated as one of the 20 Best Places to Go in 2018 by Time Magazine. However, this came as no surprise to me!

If you’re planing to visit anytime soon, here are some suggested things to do:

1.Enjoy the lake. Take a rowboat or kayak on the lake. Another great option is the Minnie Haha, a steamboat that tours the lake and departs from the Lake George Village. There’s always the one-of-a-kind experience, Tiki Tour, on the lake with a maximum of 6 of your friends while enjoying your own food and drinks.37101509_10157183813743797_4278588798993956864_n.jpg2. Explore the village. The village offers a variety of activities, events, and places to eat and drink. While in the village, we visited the tasting room for the Adirondack Winery. The Adirondack is a family owned business with a great selection. I picked up a bottle of their Gewurztraminer for under $20.

3. Peddle a rail-bike through the Adirondacks with views of the Hudson River. There’s a railway tour with Revolution Rail that costs $80 for two people. However this activity must be scheduled in advance via their website and their tours prove to sell out fast during peak season.

4. Visit Fort William Henry. This English fort that sits on the southern part of the lake was first build during the mid 1700s in opposition of the French. Actors reenact the English perspective transporting tourists back in time.

5. Take a swing at Mini Golf. I love Pirates Cove Mini Golf. While I’ve played at the ones in the Cape and Florida, I didn’t have the time to try the course at Lake George. Next time I go, this is a must on my list!
